DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of the Public Works Department is to provide services and maintenance for the City’s infrastructure.  Including water, waste water (sewer), collection and disposal of garbage, brush, streets and park management and upkeep.

WHAT WE DO:

  • Parks
    Responsible for operations and maintenance of our city parks.
  • Sanitation
    Responsible for collection and disposal of garbage.  Containers shall each have a capacity of not less than twenty (20) nor more than thirty-two (32) gallons, except that this maximum shall not apply to larger containers which the town handles mechanically.  The combined weight of any container and its contents shall not exceed seventy-five (75) pounds.  Where alleys are used by the town containers shall be placed on or within six (6) feet of the alley line in such a position as not to intrude upon the traveled portion of the alley.  Where streets are used by the town containers shall be placed adjacent to and back of the curb, or adjacent to and back of the ditch or street line if there is no curb.

  • Brush
    Pursuant to the passing of Ordinance 2015-08 on January 7, 2016: “Brush is defined as tree limbs and/or logs. Brush shall be cut to a length that can be managed by two people with or without mechanical assistance. Managed brush is defined by anything in a 4″ in diameter or smaller needs to be 4-6 ft. in length.  Anything with a 4” diameter needs to be no longer than 3 feet in length.  Brush created by a professional tree service or individuals otherwise hired to cut trees and/or brush are expressly excluded and will be disposed of by the person or persons hired to cut the brush or by the property owner.  In addition, leaves are also excluded.  Brush will be collected on a first come basis and shall be administered by using the Town’s work order system.  Where streets are used by the brush pickup collectors, brush shall be placed adjacent to and back of the curb, or adjacent to and back of the ditch or street line if there is not curb, at such times as shall be scheduled by the town for the collection of brush therefrom.  The cost of brush pickup collection for residential customers inside the city limits will be two dollars ($2.00) per month.  The Public Works Director or City Manager will resolve disputes concerning suitability of the material or the quantities involved if any should arise.  (1975 Code, 8-203)

  • Water
    Responsible for maintaining our water lines and distribution system.
  • Waste Water
    Responsible for maintaining our waste water collection system, including storm drains and manholes.
